About This Event
We invite our Mumbaki, Ifugao Elder Mamerto "Lagitan" Tindongan to Lenape Territory to share in his teachings of Self/ Communal Healing and wisdom sharings of centering Spirit. We will draw upon the lesson of the trees, and of all of creation. Lagitan will be sending us a healing and interconnection workshop that will be co-facilitated by his student Jana Lynne "JL" Umipig. Lagitan will lead participants to center in the power of interconnection. He will be guiding participants inmeditation and breathing techniques to realign their energy bodies. This is to help us realign with our ancestral spirits and sentient beings.
About Lagitan and JL:
Mamerto “Lagitan” Tindongan is an 8th generation Mumbaki, a shaman from the indigenous Ifugao tribe of the Philippines. Since moving to the United States in 1991, Mamerto has been rekindling his being around tribal tradition, moving into a deep level of practice and understanding that has expanded his reach into the spiritual world and the living world. He practices and teaches Tai Chi and Qigong and is an energy healer. One of his lifelong trademarks is his traditional wood sculpting. Here, he believes there is a balance in the confluence of line, shape, and form that is unearthed through carving, infused with an energy vibration that he harnesses to create the sculptures. He is a 4th level Paqo priest of the Andean Quero tradition and an Indigenous Knowledge Bearer.
My name is Jana Lynne "JL" Caldetera Umipig, daughter of Rosemarie Caldetera Umipig (Pagudpud, Ilokos Norte) and Godofredo Peralta Umipig (Santa Maria, Ilokos Sur). Born and raised on the Kingdom of Hawaii and also raised on Yokuts Territory (Stockton, CA). My current and closest relation to land is the Lenape Territory (Bronx, NY). I am a cultural and knowledge bearer through my multidisciplinary artistic expression/creation work, my role as an educator raising young sages in education for liberation and my duty as a healer in uplifting the healer within all who come to exchange with me. I embody my Sacred Work at every turn of my existence and understand my life as Ceremony and Spiritual Practice. Because of this truth, I believe that the service of artistic and healing work cannot be conducted in this "Time of Decolonization" without seeing our spirits intertwined to our justice, dignity and freedom. I invite us all to be in relation to how our integrity and honor are tightly bound to our liberation, and when we compromise them to capitalistic, patriarchal and white supremist ties, our freedom is ceded. I am a humble co-creator of the Sacred Circles of Center for Babaylan Studies, Survival Arts and Raised Pinay.
